VMware vCenter in a Virtual Machine – The Performance of the MS SQL Database

Introduction

VMware has released a 17-page document “Performance of Virtualized SQL Server-Based VMware vCenter Database”, in which, they have included the basic aspects of database performance, Microsoft SQL Server for VMware vCenter Server in a virtual machine infrastructure vSphere.

Results:

• Most of the demanding operations of MS SQL database on a virtual vCenter performance are comparable to the physical installation.

• SQL Server-based vCenter, managing a large number of ESX host servers and clusters, can work in a virtual machine.

• MS SQL database, in general, operates with almost no loss of performance in virtual machines on vSphere 4.1.
